Why use public transportation? Public transit is low-cost, environmentally friendly and you can determine your own schedule without relying on friends or families for rides. You can request a stop any place along the route simply by waiving the bus down. 

You can use public transportation to get to work or Corning Community College, medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, local shopping stores and restaurants, personal appointments, a friend's house - almost anywhere in Schuyler County and the surrounding area you need to be!

  • Q. Will the bus stop for passengers between scheduled stops? Yes, you may flag the bus at any point along the route.
  • Q. What is route deviation?  The bus leaves the designated route up to 3/4 of a mile for people who cannot get to/from a bus stop.  Requires an advance reservation and is available to the general public. Call 607.535.3555 for details.  Your rights and responsibilities for people with disabilities.
  • Q. Can service animals be on the bus? Yes.
  • Q. Do Schuyler County Transit vehicles connect to Chemung, Steuben or Ithaca area transit systems?  Yes, our Corning Connections route, connects at the Corning Transportation Center on Denison Parkway to Steuben Transit systems, C TRAN's Elmira Corning route and inter-city bus services like Trailways and Coach USA.
  • Q. Where can month passes and ticket be purchased? Tickets and passes can be purchased with exact change on the bus. To purchase with check or credit card, please visit the Schuyler County Transit office.
  • Q. Can senior passes be purchased as gifts by individuals who are not seniors? Yes, provided that the buyer has verification of the senior's eligibility.
  • Q. What if I need help carrying groceries to and from the bus? The driver is not able to assist with carrying purchases. Personal care assistants and aides ride for free There are no applications for aides.
Tips for Riders

For your safety, please:

  • Take your seat quickly and do not change seats while bus in motion.
  • Stand back from the street while waiting at bus stop and wait until bus departs before crossing the street.
  • No pets with the exception of service animals.
  • No eating or drinking on the bus. 

Please remember to:

  • Arrive at the bus stop early; buses cannot wait
  • Check the bus head sign to ensure it is servicing your stop. Ask the driver if you are unsure.
  • Do not eat, drink, smoke, or play excessively loud music.
  • Secure your personal belongings and remember not to purchase more than you can carry on the bus.
  • Be sure you have all your belongings when you exit the bus.
  • Be ready to exit the bus at your stop.
  • Be respectful to other riders and the driver.  Drivers may remove or deny access to the bus for passengers being belligerent.
